How Much Does Physiotherapy Cost in Kenya?
The honest answer is that it varies a lot, and the total that matters is sessions × rate, not the headline price of one appointment.
What drives the price
Three things, mostly: where the practitioner is based, whether they come to you, and how long the session runs.
A clinic in a prime Nairobi location carries rent that shows up in the rate. A home visit adds travel, a physiotherapist crossing town to Karen spends an hour in traffic that they cannot spend treating anyone else. And a 60-minute initial assessment costs more than a 30-minute follow-up because it takes longer and involves more.
None of that is unreasonable, but it does mean quoted prices vary widely across Nairobi, and comparing single-session rates between two practitioners tells you less than you would think.
The number that actually matters
Not the session rate, the total. That is sessions × rate, and the first number is the one nobody quotes you.
A straightforward mechanical problem might need four to six sessions. A post-surgical knee needs a programme running months. Stroke rehabilitation is measured in months to years. So a practitioner charging less per session but insisting on twenty appointments is not the cheaper option.
Ask two questions before you commit:
- How many sessions do you think this will take? A good practitioner will give you a range and explain what would change it.
- How will we know if it is not working? There should be an answer. Ours is that if four sessions have not moved the problem, something else is going on, and the honest response is a referral rather than a tenth appointment.
Clinic or home visit?
Home visits cost more because of the travel. But if travelling is painful, or you cannot drive after surgery, or you would spend two hours in traffic per appointment, the home visit is frequently the better value: because the alternative is missing sessions, and missed sessions are what actually make rehabilitation expensive.

Not reliably. Price tracks location and overheads more than skill. A practitioner working from a smart clinic in a prime location has rent to cover that a mobile physiotherapist does not.
Do I pay per session or upfront for a block?
Both models exist in Kenya. We charge per session, because how many sessions you need is a clinical judgement that should be made as you go, not a decision taken at the point of sale.
Will my insurance cover physiotherapy?
